The 86th Session of the Executive Committee elects the Union's new Secretary-General
The new Secretary-General of the African Parliamentary Union (APU), for the period 2027–2030, will be elected at the 86th Session of the Executive Committee, to be held on 10 and 11 November in Lomé, Togo.
Two candidates are in the running for this post: Mr Bahouaba Norbert Tankoano, of the People’s Legislative Assembly of Burkina Faso, and Mr Bouba Halidou, of the National Assembly of Cameroon.
The candidates were nominated during the 85th Session of the Executive Committee, which took place last June in Dakar, Senegal.
The elected candidate will be put forward to the Union Conference for appointment and will become the organisation’s eighth Secretary-General, following Kouame Samuel (Côte d’Ivoire), Adou Sess Henri (Côte d’Ivoire), Fall Brahima (Senegal), Diamani Kalombo (acting, Democratic Republic of the Congo), Abdelgadir Abdalla (Sudan), N’zi Koffi (Côte d’Ivoire) and IDI GADO Boubacar (Niger), whose term of office ends this year.
