Around 150 delegates attended the 85th Session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (APU), held on 3 and 4 June in Dakar, Senegal.
The delegates came from Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, The Gambia, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Mozambique (as an observer), Niger, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Senegal, Chad and Zimbabwe.
Over the course of these two days, the delegates examined, in particular, the activities carried out during the intersessional period, reviewed the auditors’ report, and considered proposals for themes for the 48th Conference, specifically for the Political, Economic and Sustainable Development Committees, and for the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus.
In addition, they examined the proposed amendments to the organisation’s statutes and shortlisted candidates for the post of APU Secretary-General.
The Executive Committee is the body responsible for directing the Union’s activities and overseeing the implementation of the decisions, resolutions and recommendations of the Conference of Presidents.
