President of the APU Executive Committee meets with parliamentary delegations in Istanbul
The President of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) and President of the Senate of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, His Excellency Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, recently met, during the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul, Turkey, with delegations from Angola, South Africa, Zambia and Namibia.
The President of the Executive Committee held separate meetings with Her Excellency the Head of the Angolan delegation, Ms Idalina Valente, with Her Excellency the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa, Ms Angela Thokozile Didiza, with Her Excellency the Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Ms Nelly Butete Kashumba Mutti, as well as with Her Excellency the Head of the Namibian Parliamentary delegation, Ms Emma Muteka.
These contacts form part of efforts to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the APU and African parliaments.
APU member marks 50th anniversary at the 152nd IPU Assembly
Cameroonian Senator Pierre Flambeau Ngayap, a member of the African Parliamentary Union (APU), recently addressed the general debate of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul, Turkey, highlighting the APU’s achievements over its 50 years of existence.
The Senator emphasised the fact that the APU regularly produces, at its conferences, resolutions and declarations in support of gender parity, youth and sustainable development.
The 152nd IPU Assembly was held under the theme “Cultivating hope, consolidating peace and ensuring justice for future generations”.
The 153rd IPU Assembly is scheduled for October this year in Arusha, in the United Republic of Tanzania.
