TRANSFER OF CHARGES AT AFRICAN PARLIAMENTARY UNION
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Djibouti, Mohamed Ali Houmed, Chairperson of the African Parliamentary Union (APU), replaces the Honorable Alassane Bala Sakandé, Speaker of the National Assembly of Burkina Faso.
The handover ceremony was held on February 21, 2020 at the headquarters of this institution in Abidjan. Mr. IDI Gado Boubacar, Secretary General of the UPA, directed this ceremony.
The outgoing President, Alassane Bala Sakandé, first spoke on the history of the building sheltering the headquarters of the organization. "For those who do not know, the building of the APU headquarters was the residence of the late President Félix Houphouët-Boigny," he said.
He also thanked the new APU President, while regretting that the one-year mandate was not enough to undertake all the actions necessary to revitalize APU.
President Mohamed Ali Houmed stressed the heavy task ahead but said he was reassured thanks to the actions carried out by the Honorable Alassane Bala Sakandé.
At the end of this ceremony, the Honorable Mohamed Ali Houmed and Alassane Bala Sakandé were received by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Côte d'Ivoire, the Honorable Amadou Soumahoro.
