The Speaker of the National Assembly of Djibouti, incoming President of the APU Executive Committee, HE Mr. Mohamed Ali HOUMED, the outgoing President SEM Alassane Bala SAKANDE, Speaker of the National Assembly of Burkina Faso and the APU Secretary General, M. IDI Gado Boubacar, received in audience by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Côte d'Ivoire, SEM Amadou SOUMAHORO.
President Amadou SOUMAHORO received in audience, this Friday, February 21, 2020, at his cabinet, the new president of the African Parliamentary Union (UPA), Mohamed Ali Houmed, president of the National Assembly of Djibouti and the outgoing president of this Institution, Mr. Alassane Bala SAKANDE, President of the National Assembly of Burkina Faso. At the end of this working session, Mr. Mohamed Ali Houmed thanked President Amadou SOUMAHORO for the welcome and the organization put in place during his stay on Ivorian soil. In addition, he indicated, with regard to the challenges of his mandate, that he will work on the sites started by his predecessor, but also so that all the parliaments of the continent can join the UPA. In particular the 13 countries of the continent which are not yet members. He took advantage of this tribune to announce the upcoming erection of a statue in the image of the Founding Father of Côte d'Ivoire, HE. Félix Houphouët Boigny to celebrate all of his work for the UPA. As for Mr. Alassane Bala SAKANDE, he said that he felt the duty accomplished during his mandate, with the opening of major projects during his management of the African Parliamentary Union. In particular a better representation of young people and women on the executive committee of the Union, the rotating presidency between the four African regions, and a better knowledge of the African Parliamentary Union. He also expressed the wish to see the mandate of the president of the UPA increased to two years in order to allow greater achievements by the president of this institution. Note that Presidents Mohamed Ali Houmed and Alassane Bala SAKANDE invited the President of the National Assembly to a courtesy visit to their respective countries.
